Our amazing trip! Day 1, Travel Day & Downtown Disney

So, when I originally started this blog it was intended to share my photos... Unfortunately, I hardly have time to do that anymore (It's been over a year since my last post!) since I started working. Also, most of the moments that capture me these days involve my always active toddler. :D The moments I'm not working, I'm totally entranced by him. He's growing up so quickly! So, this blog will take on a new leaf, and who knows how much I will keep up with it! But there will be a series of postings now at least to share with you our recent adventure...
To Disney World...
With a 2 year old...
It was SUCH an awesome trip! I have been to Disney World enough to still be entranced by it, but not enough that it is by any means boring... :D They are always changing and refreshing things! I don't think I have been there yet that there hasn't been something new for me! And now I can't wait to go back because they're opening a whole new world for the younger crowd! :D It should be AMAZING!
Anyhow, on to our trip. It was a gift from my parents, so first off a HUGE THANK YOU! needs to go to them. My dad decided that it would be fun for the whole family to go to Disney World while they were on their regular 2 week tour down south. So Dan, Seth, Mark, Coleton and I got up SUPER early on February 25, 2012 to board a plane!
This was snapped with my iPhone (as some lot of them will be...) right before walking out the door at 6:30am! We made the drive towards Detroit International Airport, missing the exit for I-275, and getting stuck in this mess:
But Seth (shown in photo below..) & Mark were amazing and kept the kiddo very entertained and happy :D I mean seriously, what did he care about some ice, 5 accidents, and crazy traffic...HE WAS GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!
We FINALLY reached the airport, and after getting all of our stuff through security and a rather friendly frisk for me (I had an attached necklace made of metal on my shirt...duh!), we finally were able to wait for our plane. Lo-and-behold, our seats were now scattered throughout the plane! (They switched planes and just randomly slotted people into seats...so when travelling make sure this doesn't happen to you! We knew about it the night before, so I knew to get it taken care of!) We seriously didn't have 2 seats together! So, as a freaking the heck out momma (trying to look calm) I approached the gate and had to get that squared away! (There was this rude woman who said that she "honestly didn't care about my baby, but if she wasn't sitting with who she came with and next to a window, 'they'd' be sorry." (If I were the flight people, I probably would have told her, "well guess what? You've been randomly selected to fly stand by on the next flight! Please take a seat, and we will let you know when you will be able to fly out!" HAHA!) The flight attendant at the desk was super friendly and helpful and said that she would do her best to get us 3 seats together, which in the end she did! Unfortunately the boys had to still sit individually...:( Sorry guys! Here's one of Coleton looking at our plane!
So, we finally board, and get Coleton all strapped into his awesome CARES harnass, (Thanks Becky!!) and he's all set and ready to go!
Doesn't he look so happy?!? (That's Duffy bear by his side... dressed as an avaitor, He's Disney's official Bear! My parents got him for Coleton last year when they went to Disney, so it was super fun to take him with us and dress him up everyday! He literally went EVERYWHERE with us!) So, here are some in flight photos (in no particular order...)
Now, at this point Coleton had hardly gotten an sleep, was exposed to several new things in a very short time, and was getting tired, but was too excited, so instead he just got antsy... THANK GOODNESS for his iXL (made by Fisher Price), it is seriously one of the best kid toys on the market in my opinion... and I'm not one to like kids playing video games, but pretty much all the games are educational and showcase characters kids are familiar with! This is probably his favorite toy.
He also, got an inflight snack, which, was not my shining Momma moment... DUH! I normally check labels like a crazy person, but for some reason I though, Oh! Cookie! Safe! NOPE! Cinnamon. (Which we suspect Coleton is allergic to....) WHOOPS! Parenting, fail.
So, the flight was just a bizarre one... it was mostly smooth sailing, but by the end I found myself feeling a little sick to my stomach! Apparently Coleton did too, because on decent and into landing, YACK! *sigh* Poor kid... As soon as we were on the ground he was crying (the only kid on a flight to Orlando crying...), and full of barf. So, seriously, even though the seat belt light was still on, as soon as those wheels hit the ground Mark and I were in motion. Stripping his clothes off of him and trying to get it cleaned up, because honestly, who wants to see THAT?!? Pretty much by the time people we walking down the aisle to get off the plane it was all cleaned up, and he's sitting happily in his diaper. Yup, I didn't dress him until we got off the plane. HAHA! Forutnately, I had thought to pack a couple changes of clothes for him and one for myself (just in case...) becuase we both took the brunt of it. (Due to this, Mark got to clean up since he wasn't full of puke..HAHA!) Once everyone was changed, we navigated Orlando International Airport, found where the Disney busses were, or as Coleton called them "Disney School Bus." (He's going to be disappointed on his first day of school when he realizes how "cheap" the actual school busses are!) We got on the bus, and began the "real" part of our vacation!
This one is one of my new favorite (I have MANY....) photos of the 2 of us. :D Totally <3 this boy!!
Now, as you would imagine, after going, going, going, since 6am, a 2 year old is BOUND to get worn out... and he most certainly did, CRASHED HARD on the bus shortly after it set in motion!
As you can imagine, we did a lot of planning for this trip, and since this was technically a "travel" day, we didn't get tickets to the parks, so we decided to go to Downtown Disney after getting settled into our Disney resort/hotel (which was Pop Century). Coleton got his choice of resturant, which was discussed several times before hand, photos were shown, etc. He picked Rainforest Cafe, good choice kiddo! Here are some photos from there!
We also, did some walking around Downtown Disney and saw all the fun stuff there is to see!
A huge Lego store! Which impressed Coleton very little.. he did like playing with the legos they had set out for all the kids, and his form of playing was more assisting others... he simply handed the other kids the legos to build with :D Such a moderator!
We also checked out some of the live shows and street performers :D
I have sworn to myself that I WILL someday eat here... I've always wondered if the food was any good, and c'mon a resturant on a boat?? How awesome right? Reminds me of my cruises!
I guess the NBA had something huge going on there that night too, because House of Blues was shut down to the public and they had a bunch of security around it...
Now, by this point you're probably saying, how FUN to get to go with your WHOLE family to Disney World?!? Right?!? Well, what was even more awesome? We ran into my Aunt Sue and her family! (they were there celebrating birthdays!) We had NO IDEA they were going to be there! Her husband (my uncle) Jon was on facebook and saw my postings and figured out that we were there at the SAME TIME! So, we met up really quick on our first night :D This isn't EVERYONE, but WOW how awesome right?!?
This was the end of the line for poor Coleton.... he had simply had it, but was still in a good mood! Mom took him back to the hotel & the rest of us went and saw La Nouba!!! If you have the cash to spare, it is SO WORTH IT. The stunts they do are simply mind boggling, and there isn't a minute that you're not entertained in one way or another! I wish I had more eyes so I could have taken it all in!
After travelling all day, you'd think we'd be exhausted... but we decided to hit up Raglan Road, an amazing Irish pub in Downtown Disney, that has live music every single night! We had a few drinks, listened to this really awesome rendition of music by Adele. Then, we called it a night! Off to Disney's Hollywood Studios in the morning!!
